Some of the primary duties of a social worker with the Division of Child Welfare include responding to cases of child abuse and neglect; moving children out of unsafe home environments or those that fail certain standards; working with children and their families to develop reunification plans in conjunction with the Courts Office for Child Advocates; helping parents address the needs of their children by connecting them to resources and helping them navigate programs, therapies, and counseling; and arranging short-term and long-term child care if a family is unable to care for the child. Duties can include investigating allegations of child abuse or neglect, conducting home inspections, and talking to children about any problems that they might be experiencing.
